Close, very close. Takashi was dead by 3054 in the middle of the Clan invasion, the 2nd Sword of Light participated in the Combine-Dominion War in 3062. The Black Dragons didn't like Theodore working with old enemies like the Federated Commonwealth... here's what Sarna has to say on the matter. www.sarna.net/wiki/Kokuryu-kaiI'll edit that to remove Takashi. Also how old do you envison Ryu to be? His history would undoubtedly have been influened by Inner-Sphere wide events. What would be best? Also about the Phoenix Hawk... is it going to be older than just decades? If you want I can extrapolate a striker-type design that at least incorporates a sword if you're leaning that direction. Well, you mentioned centuries, but decades is also fine. If the sword can be done, it will be great. If not the PXH-1Kk will be alright. As far as your question. Um... yes and no. Some battlemechs do have melee weapons and indeed swinging them at close range is a deavistating attack when they connect. However, full blown blade on blade duels like in Gundam aren't really possible, it's much more clunky than that. Not all of the mechs in that game have melee weapons. The blue one is the poster boy of the series, and thus that sword is unique. To complete Ryo's Story, I require help to discern how he got out of prison for refusing to fight for the Black Dragon Society, and how he ended as a merc. How old he should be would also help me, and then perhaps some more info about the mech (weapons, etc), when you have it.

Looks good, should be interesting, and feel free to ask if you want help developing or have questions in general As far as age, it's really up to you there's no "best" other than what fits best for your character. It might inform some tactics he utilizes but really it's not a hugely significant thing. Go with what your gut tells you and roll from there. As far as the Phoenix Hawk is concerned, what I'm saying is if it's centuries old then it is more likely to be a highly modified design, meaning you don't have to go with the standard PXH-1Kk model. That could be the basis of course, but over time it could have gotten the sword, or different weapons, or better jump jets, or a lighter engine, or any other number of things. If it's "only" decades old then odds are it won't be as rebuilt and modified as a centuries-old one. I'll have to delve into the sourcebook but I think a sword would weigh, what, 2 1/2 tons Choro or SaintB? With a bit of weight saving and TSM... oh god I don't wanna think about the potential damage being done.

Then it's better that it's a centuries-old family heirloom that started as a PXH-1Kk and then got the sword. I'm thinking the sword, the two pulse lasers, the ER laser and modified jump jets. That works. That would mean he was born in 3039... and whadda ya know there was a war between the DC and FedSuns at that time (all who are familiar with 'Tech and surprised by this raise your hands...). That would put him at a military academy at in 3057, out by 3059-3061 depending on how long it takes DCMS to train their mechwarriors... yup that works. That means he could have participated in Operation Bird Dog or Operation Bulldog and fought the Clans right out of the gate...heck the entire history of the Combine is here: www.sarna.net/wiki/History_of_the_Draconis_Combine#ReconciliationAs far as the battlemech... it would take a bit of modification because weight becomes an issue pretty quickly. Plus I apologize but apparently the improved jump jets aren't available until 3069 AND they're Clan tech to boot (can't fit them together without a lot of jury-rigging). That being said a bit of fiddling might work out... Ooooor it can be one helluva redesign courtesy of centuries of battle-damage and refits For example, the Dracs REALLY like a weapon called the PPC, which is essentially a lightning gun. www.sarna.net/wiki/PPCWith enough fanagaling this could potentially be a mech that mounts both a PPC and a sword... but that might take a bit more help than I'm capable of. Or there are a bajillion other things that could be done to empasize the striker role.

Alright Choro or SaintB, help me out here. I know a sword weighs about 20% of a mech rounded up, but do you need a third actuator in addition to the other two that every mech has in each arm?

I'm shooting from the hip here, have only read the Wiki and have little to no technical idea of the Battlemechs.
I chose the mech model because it was specifically commissioned by the lords of the faction I'd be roleplaying as.

This... might be a bit advanced for me. They're talking about customizing your mech, which is totally a thing you can do. But you certainly don't have to, and even I'm not 100% on all the rules, especially as they pertain to the RPG. My point is don't worry about it.

This... might be a bit advanced for me. Oh as Choro said, there's some major neckbearding going on here as far as mech design. Really it can be just as simple as picking a mech or fighter with a Battle value 2.0 of 1500 or below and rolling from there. What really helps is getting a handle on the "meat" of your character IE who they are, where did they train, why are they now a mercenary. A good place to start is to figure out where they come from, and in the Inner Sphere that usually means they're from one of the Successor States: www.sarna.net/wiki/Successor_StatesOr if they're from somewhere a bit more wild that usually means they're from the regions just outside of the Inner Sphere, known as the Periphery www.sarna.net/wiki/PeripheryOnce you have a grasp on your character's basic story, the rest tends to fall into place with a nudge or two. I'm shooting from the hip here, have only read the Wiki and have little to no technical idea of the Battlemechs. I chose the mech model because it was specifically commissioned by the lords of the faction I'd be roleplaying as. Exactly. Your character was at one point the latest in the long line of generational Samurais stretching back at least a century or two (as of writing anyway), back to the time when mechwarriors were seen as knight errants and the like. Although, if you want to explore a bit more there are of course a slew of Draconis Combine Mechs. www.sarna.net/wiki/Category:Draconis_Combine_BattleMechsAs far as technical idea... what's still confuzzling you Samu?

One question: Do these mechs turn into planes like Macross? If I'm going to mess up I'd better do it while this RP hasn't yet started. There where Land Air 'Mechs but they were extremely rare and tended to fall apart at inopportune moments.. like combat.

MechWarrior: Ryo Sanada Ryo Sanada is a former Chu-i (Lieutenant) from the 2nd Swords of Light regiment, the elite arm of the DMCS. He graduated from the Sun Zhang MechWarrior Academy in New Samarkand, which is the most prestigious military academy in the Draconis Combine, receiving a daisho (a set of a katana and a wakizashi) that he bears proudly as a symbol of his status and honor. During the struggle between Takashi and Theodore Kurita, the 2nd Swords of Light regiment allied with the Black Dragon Society. Placing loyalty above all else, as Bushido requires, Ryo refused to support this counter-reformist movement, and was in turn expelled from his unit and imprisoned in Albiero in the event he could alert the Secret Intelligence Services. (I think this part is incomplete, need something to finish it).Ryo is a serious, no-nonsense man that lives entirely to fight, and is rarely comfortable outside the battlefield. When battle isn't near, he spends his time training in hand-to-hand combat (both armed and unarmed martial arts). Though distant and cold, he is a civilized and polite man - he is a proud warrior, not a thug - , and will fight bravely until the end regardless of consequences for his own life. He is loyal to allies, and fights honorably, but will give no quarter to enemies. His red Phoenix Hawk PXH-1Kk, named "Crimson Demon of War" and decorated with his family's crest in gold, is a venerable heirloom that has been used by his family throughout its whole history, serving House Kurita and the Draconis Combine loyally and with honor for centuries. Close, very close. Takashi was dead by 3054 in the middle of the Clan invasion, the 2nd Sword of Light participated in the Combine-Dominion War in 3062. The Black Dragons didn't like Theodore working with old enemies like the Federated Commonwealth... here's what Sarna has to say on the matter. www.sarna.net/wiki/Kokuryu-kaiAlso how old do you envison Ryu to be? Can totally make that thing carry a sword... may have to lose the pulse lasers but they could be replaced with ER.

No, an additional actuator isn't necessary. Yeah Dya is right, unless the 'mech is not standard with hand actuators (which was almost entirely unheard of until the clan invasion) there would be no need for a modification.

I mocked one up real fast... If only the weaponry is changed it would be the sword on the right arm and a ER Large Laser and a ER Small laser on the left arm. It doesn't seem like overwhelming armament but combine it with a 40 foot tall drone that travels at about 100k/h and capable of using rockets to propel itself 180 meters through the air you got basically a robo ninja. Could alsomake it a flamethrower for lolz, or do any of a hundred other things.

You don't have to understand it much, if you can communicate your ideas to me I can bang out 5-6 different versions of a vehicle in 15 minutes, I'm that good at it lol.

If it's not gamebreaking or messes things up, maybe one or two of those missile pods like in Macross (I'm thinking shoulders) as a last ditch thing, but if that can't be done I'm quite happy with the sword and the ER lasers. Is there a website or anything like that where I could make it and see what it would look like?
