My favorite part of Battletech is building ridiculous death machines. Especially the ones you come up with for yourself. Like a Bushwacker armed with an LB 20-X and sporting a guardian ECM. That you just happened to paint swamp green. The game features an insane amount of customization, everything from the engine to whether or not you even have arms on the damn thing can be changed. You don't have to understand it much, if you can communicate your ideas to me I can bang out 5-6 different versions of a vehicle in 15 minutes, I'm that good at it lol. When I'm home I can do the same, but that's because I own a copy of Heavy Metal Pro... I'm almost afraid of what sort of mech you'd come up with. First guess is something that mounts 12 heavy flamers for a start.

The question is did you have enough ammo to keep em firing for a ridiculously long time?

Plus link those ER PPC's to a targeting computer... trying to remember the rest of the specs, but I think the other weapon was an SRM-6 backed by multiple metric fucktons of ammunition. Simple yet absolutely devastating in multioplayer matches... as I learned to my chagrin.

Actually scratch that, I think it's now free www.mwtactics.com/signup/In other news, I have the beta for the character sheet AND hopefully I'll have a modified roll/initiative table up soon, one that facilitates the player-driven game rather than massed formation tactics.

I appreciate the enthusiasm Samu... but you do realize you're just going to have to re-post this in the official OOC/Sign-up thread that will be coming pretty soon here yes? Also don't fill out the occupations, they're going to be current IE what he's doing while employed with the mercs.

I'm going by a play-by-post format, at least to start anyway, so no rush. Part of the draw will be the relaxed comparative play, with updates coming once... maybe twice a week depending on how things move. That being said, I'd love to get the Nova software from Anodyne products, but I fear my website design skills are lacking.

Alright, let's cover some basics shall we? We'll start with the easy part; movement. Since a battlemech weighs anywhere from 15-100 tons and uses two or four legs for motivation, naturally all battlemechs can move across a wide variety of terrain IE left right, forwards backwards and everything in between. About the only thing that flummoxes a battlemech is very deep water, but then again that's submarine terrain so anyone taking a battlemech that deep is an idiot anyway. In addition to horizontal movements, a battlemech can "jump" via superheated air directed through nozzles aka Jump jets: www.sarna.net/wiki/Jump_jet#.27Mech_Jump_JetsWith the number of jets determining how high a mech can jump. In addition to raw movement, 'mechs can also twist their torso and move arms to point weapons in different directions. That means essentially a mech can walk in one direction while having an arm or the entire torso twisted in another to fire at a target, which makes returning fire a lot more difficult for whatever's on the receiving end. However, while a battlemech can move over a wider variety of terrain more easily than say a wheeled vehicle or a WiGE (wing in ground effect vehicle), they can't do it without impunity. Rougher terrain will slow a mech down if sufficiently broken, while hard maneuvers over slick surfaces such as pavement or ice can even cause a mech to skid or even fall over. Aerospace of course doesn't have any of these hindrances but fighters are limited by fuel, something a battlemech doesn't have to contend with. While in the air an aerospace fighter has the ability to move in any direction provided that direction is air or space. Obviously ground and water plus aerospace fighter flying at mach 2.3 is bad so that goes without saying The second concept that is central to Battletech when it comes to vehicluar movement and combat is waste heat. Since most top of the line vehicles are built around fusion engines, naturally they generate a lot of heat in the process of generating power. In order to deal with the heat vehicles equip heat sinks to bleed it off as its produced. Doing anything other than just staying in one place generates waste heat, and building up too much waste heat results in either a shutdown or explosion (depending on if the auto-shutdown feature was overridden). Any questions? And next up is basic combat.
