I apologize for the lack of movement lately, holiday season and all. Rest assured that this weekend Battletech will continue on.
Oh and a belated Merry Battletechmas to you all!

IC has been updated, will get temp. characters in soon (hopefully) in leiu of not having the mad rush to sign up that I'd hoped for Also, Rank/Pay Grade scale has been posted. SaintB's character is a Lieutenant Colonel, AJ's is a Dragoon (hence why he was called a Dragoon in the first place), and mine's a Captain. Also I'll get those formulas posted asap.

So.... I know it's been awhile... a couple of months actually, and this game hasn't gotten any traction thanks t my lack of movement.
I've had to do a bit of soul-searching, and evaluation. First and foremost I want to apologize to everyone who was involved or who was potentially thinking of getting in, I killed the momentum and didn't address it or give instructions to somebody to continue on as they so wish.
I've also picked up a lot of responsibilities recently as well. I work full time, I'm working on a marine biology bachelor's at UC on the companies dime, and I have a girlfriend... put those in precedence where you will of course.
Finally, the thing of it is was that the entire plot was pretty much verbatim taken from SaintB's RP over at NationStates. It didn't feel like mine, that I was just placeholding while the original author was coming up with ideas.
So in conclusion... I'd like to try again, re-set if you will. Same era, but maybe a bump in exact starting date and venue. Specifically, I was thinking about changing the setting to Clan space during the Wars of Reaving. Given the utter chaos and extreme nature of that story plus the relative lack of information surrounding it, I felt that it's at least worth exploring.
So, what does everyone think, would they be willing to give it a second shot if I made some different provisions and re-started in a different setting entirely?

Alright, there's been a bit of a delay but finally, the update for the re-set is afoot. First, the specifics: IC Start-Date: January 30th , 3070 Starting Location: Hellgate Starting player factions: Clan Snow Raven (Watch), Clan Goliath Scorpion (Watch) Prologue: Deep in systems far removed from the Inner Sphere, the progeny of the self-exiled Star League Defense Force are in the midst of a period of great upheival and contention. Having been irrevocably changed since the failed invasion of the Inner Sphere, The Clans have now become cleaved along another schism: those Clans that participated in the invasion and that were changed by their experiences fighting with the forces of the Inner Sphere, and those that did not participate and chose instead to expand their holdings and fortify their existing enclaves. In the political arena of combat, Steel Viper Khan Brett Andrews leads a powerful political alliance known as the Snake Alliance as a cudgel against other Clans whom are described as "tainted" in some form or another.
With endless trial after trial on the horizon and new unaddressed threats looming in the shadows, the branches of the Clan Watch that operate under the auspices of Clan Goliath Scorpion and Clan Snow Raven have undertaken a joint operation to probe and ascertain the gravity of such unaddressed threats. Utilizing resources and manpower from commands where they might not otherwise be missed, this special task group now faces the uncertainty of a potentially unknown enemy, certain death of they're caught by any regular Clan forces, and the knowledge that their entire mission might not be totally sanctioned by either or both of the Khans of the home clans...
Alright now with that out of the way there are few things that anyone who wants to sign up but isn't totally familiar with how the Clans operate normally should know. All of the information divulged here can also be found at the super-helpful wiki- Clan society is a strict caste-based one, with warriors at the top, then the scientists, technicians, merchants, then laborers in decreasing order of status. While it's not a brutal society per se each clan (which is essentially an independent tribe in a greater society), there is very little in terms of upward mobility between castes. It's not totally out of the question of course, but it's an exception rather than a rule. - Most Clan warriors are genetically bred through a eugenics program and raised by the state to be warriors from the get-go, and warriors are bred for a specific role rather than as warriors in general. Their genetics can be traced back to 800 or so maternal Bloodnames, some of which are exclusive to particular clans. In this case the starting Clans are Snow Raven and Goliath Scorpion exclusive bloodnames should come from either Clan for "trueborn" warriors. As always, the wiki is handy in this regard as well.- Although more traditional or outright combat isn't unheard of among the Clans, a unique feature of their way of initiating certain aspects of combat via the Six Trials of Combat. How this may or may not play out is of course something which will have to be seen in-story, but for now the general idea is that no Clan goes on indiscriminate rampages or uses weapons of mass destruction as a matter of course, and that duels or contests under some form of rules is pretty common. - Honor is paramount in the Clans. Dishonoring ones' self is seen as one of the worst personal shames of all, and can usually only be rectified at great expense to one's self in some form. Again, how this will play out in-story will have to be seen. I realize that it's a lot to digest so anyone who's interested but doesn't know where to start can always ask for help. For now, here's a rudimentary sign-up form to copy-paste from: Name: Call Sign: Age: Place of Birth: Physical Description or Photograph: Personality Overview/Traits: Biographical Information: Primary Role: Rank: To streamline things playing characters can only have the role of Mechwarrior or Aerospace Pilot to start with. I might introduce Elemental (battle armor) playing characters at a different time but for now it's either one or the other. Also rank will be assigned from the outset rather than picked. I will throw everyone a teaser however: notice the primary part of the role, there might be other roles to take on later.

So... here I am posting here for a third time...
I came across some handwritten notes for the first iteration of this forum-based game, and looking through it I started to wonder why I balked in the first place. The simple truth is that I sort of froze at the prospect of leading this circus then came up with a B.S. excuse. SaintB had the right idea from the get-go, and it was the best one to import, I just got ahead of myself and sort of freaked out.
To that end, I apologize. We were rolling then I balked, and there's no excuse for it. To that end... I'd like to try and re-start the original game. Bear's Brigade, Jihad, the works.
Anyone around and in on it?

Ryo Sanada's application is still there. Figured you were itching to unleash him... The only issue is I see you posted the Phoenix Hawk LAM application for his mech instead of the 45 ton battlemech... might need a bit of a re-work but that's certainly not a problem. Alright, before we begin there's a couple of battlemech-related things I want to go over. First is mine, or at least my characters, and SaintB I'll need your help on this one. The premise is that Faizan's mech is one that was assembled using parts that were "lying around" the mech bays of the Irregulars and the Guns and grafting them to a "shop queen" mech. While the base mech (dragon of some kind) flies, I was looking at the specs and I realized that nobody just leaves Ferro-Fibrious or a targeting computer lying around, so back to the drawing board I go. Which leads me to this question: Saint this is your Command and therefore your mythology and history, what sorts of stuff would be "around" in the mechbay? I can imagine stuff like Medium and ER Medium lasers are ordered in bulk by all commands so tournament level stuff would be readily available, but what about things like A IV FCS's? Or other kinds of electronics? I'm guessing since the ethos of GSS is essentially quickstrike and other asymmetric or fast assault types of combat and operations, some weapons and the like might get sawed off in a hurry in favor of other weapons and equipment, so what might be "lying around" per se? @samuraikoku, you have a different problem. I read your spec sheet... and it's for the 50 ton Phoenix Hawk LAM, not the 45 Ton mech that is essentially a scout mech with a really big bitchslap. This is no big of course, as you know both Saint and I have software which can whip up an appropriate mech in a hurry, plus I think I can help come up with something that can jive with Ryo's fighting style as well as reflect the heritage of the familial battlemech that it's supposed to be. Also I'm aiming to kick the RP in the pants by about Wednesday or Thursday if anyone is watching and keeping score.

I think this afternoon I won't have much to do in the office so I can try to make a Ryo Sanada RP.

Hell yes you can, I'd encourage it even. How familiar are you with battletech in general, because myself and saint are ultra-willing to help. Also there are a couple of things to keep in mind when writing up a character.

Its ok if you don't know much about Battletech, as long as you like big stompy robots with multitudes of lasers or giant (150 mm and up) cannons that make big booming noises and leave craters in everything Star Lord and I can help you with the rest.

Sign me up! Awesome. Copy/paste the character sheet from the first post, get a few ideas and bounce em off me and Saint over the weekend. Also consult the wiki: www.sarna.net/wiki/Main_PageLots of good info there, although the start year in the RP is 3067 so bear that in mind.
