...ght. Sidewinder 1 out."
Silently nodding in the simulator pod Yodfa steadily pushed the throttle forward and watched the velocity readout climb accordingly. As the simulator pod shuddered and swayed in an approximation of 70 tons worth of mech striding forward Yodfa remembered a tidbit of information from one of the combat veterans that she'd picked the brains of before leaving the Alarion plant and heading for Outrech. Shifting slightly in the seat she slowly pressed the left pedal down until the view started to shift to the left, although the lack of physical movement accompanying the images was slightly disconcerting to her inner ear for a brief moment. When the twist indicator at the top of her helmet-mounted display read 45 degrees she lifted off of the pedal entirely, letting the inertia and natural friction in the torso's twist mechanism to bring it to a halt at 60 degrees to the left. She had just started to press the right pedal when she noticed that Sanada's simulated scarlet Phoenix Hawk was starting to pull away steadily, and that she'd hit the max speed of the Archer. Keeping the mech in her perhiphial vision as she watched the simulated terrain roll past she twisted the torso of the simulated Archer to 60 degrees to the right before hitting her comms transmit button. "Sidewinder 3 to Sidewinder 2, check ground speed you're leaving your lance over." Inwardly she wondered 'Is this guy greener than I am or just insane? Maybe I'm not so far in over my head...'Her thoughts were then interrupted by the realization that her lance leader's mech was also accelerating away from her. When she went to transmit this time a distinct biting edge had crept into her voice. "Sidewinder 3 to Sidewinder 1, I'm getting left in the dust by you and 3 and I'm at max speed over!" Outside of the now rumbling and hissing simulator pods and behind a bank of screens and keyboards Faizan continued to take in all the data and write notes here and there, although the slight furrowing on his brow indicated he too had seen Sanada go charging off without trying to match his lance leader's speed. Looking over at McDavis and Bear Faizan queried them regarding a small bit of potential recollection in the back of his head. "I know suicidal bravery is something that's drilled into the DCMS at all levels, but am I incorrect in remembering that Sanada-san passed the basic formation tests pretty handily? And since when does Panzer bolt from his lance like that? The last time I saw anyone leave their cover like that it ended badly. As I recall you guys had to come rescue my ass after a week of trying to dodge Lyran patrols." Movement: Accelerate to 64.8 kp/h, torso twist left then right 60 degrees Attack: None Utility: Comms to Sanada to inform him of relative speed. TAG @samuraikoku SaintB Oviraptor anonymousjerk

Éamon waited a second or two to let the rest of the group get ahead of him, then opened up the throttle wide and followed. He felt the pod shift forward and shake as he virtually accelerated. He'd felt the same thing a hundred times before in the simulators but it still exhilarated him every time. As he sped up, he realised that the front two mechs were pulling away fast from Yodfa and the Archer didn't seem to be able to catch up. She had apparently realised the same thing. "Sidewinder 3 to Sidewinder 1, I'm getting left in the dust by you and 3 and I'm at max speed over!"Panzer had tasked him with watching their 6 and he intended to do just that. He pulled back on the throttle a little as he came up behind Yodfa, carefully matching her speed. He pressed the comm button. "Sidewinder 4 to Sidewinder 1, hanging back after 3 to bring up the rear, over." The mission was off to a great start. First came Yodfa's message:"Sidewinder 3 to Sidewinder 2, check ground speed you're leaving your lance over."
"I guess she was right about that Archer..." - Ryo thought to himself. - "Oh well, hope we don't waste much time." Panzer had said that the lance could only move as fast as their slowest 'Mech, and Éamon had previously stayed back after Yodfa's message, so Ryo paid attention and slowed down. "Roger, Sidewinder 3, apologies. Checking ground speed to match yours, over." Above all, he was a professional, and for a mission to be successful, efficiency was required of every one in the squad.

Ryan loudly cursed, "Dammit, I should've known about the Archer!." Flipping over the radio, Panzer said "All sidewinder elements this is sidewinder one, I read you. Set land speed to sixty kilometers, break. Sidewinder three take point and set the pace, break. Two slow down and take three's place in formation, how copy over?" Muttering to himself the whole time, Ryan slowed his mec speed down and kept a steady pace for the rest of his lance to catch up. "must be cause I didn't sleep" Ryan told himself to no avail. He knew he'd made a rookie mistake, and in a real life situation someone could of paid for it. TAG: Oviraptor @samuraikoku Huck n' Roost

Panzer acommodated the formation so that Yodfa took point instead of Ryo. It was alright, Ryo thought, given that the Archer was the slowest 'Mech. Eventually he'd be able to speed up when it was finally time to engage. Still unbothered, he answered the comms in his usual cool tone."Solid copy Sidewinder 1, repositioning now, break. Setting ground speed to 60 Kph, over." These things happen once in a while, he continued to analyze. But once in a while was more than enough.

Dave laughed. Even the speed they went down to, ~64 was faster than most columns in formation would be moving and Sanada and Panzer were off too the races ahead of their slowest members by several hundred meters. He also had to resist the urge to stab the comms and start bellowing orders... this terrain was wooded and wet with rivers, dips, canyons, and even a couple of known geyser's and the area they were approaching was a muddy bog with potential hostiles in it. He wouldn't be handling the situation this way but this was Panzer's Op and his part was but an observer at this point. "It's Panzer's Operation this time. Maybe they jumped the gun a little. I think they are still moving too fast, you shouldn't have any unit moving at top speed unless your in combat or heading there." he critiqued, "It is dangerous behavior, a 70 tonner at 64 can be very difficult to control." Nodding in agreement with Bear, Faizan took note of the test lance's position in-field in relation to their objectives and other points of interest within the simulated battlefield. "Well he's slowed down at least but you're right, running at full tilt is usually a pretty bad idea regardless of the weight class. Still..." Faizan scrawled down a couple of more notes before continuing his thought. "At least nobody's gotten punchy and hit the coolant flush button. Or ejected their ammo." Indeed, the day's previous testing had yielded some humorous and unusual results that while not indicative of good lancemate material certainly provided enough fodder for humorous bar stories for years if not decades to come. Meanwhile in the relative privacy of a simulator pod Yodfa had slowed down to match her previously speedy lance-mates once they were re-grouped and received the last confirmations from Sanada and Panzer and was again miliseconds away from confirming their actions when her consoles lit up with new information. Only this time it wasn't a faux power fluctuation, rather it was something more immediete in nature. Keying up her comms panel Yodfa kept her eyes glued to the sensor banks. "Sidewinder 3 to Sidewinder lance, sensor contact near dropship wreckage, looks like a couple of small vehicles disposition unknown over." Once her thumb had come off the comms panel she busied herself with hurredly setting up weapons groupings in anticipation of potential combat. Ryo had just moved to his required position when Yodfa came in on comms again:"Sidewinder 3 to Sidewinder lance, sensor contact near dropship wreckage, looks like a couple of small vehicles disposition unknown over." And not sooner she had finished speaking, Ryo's scanners picked the signals up."Excellent!" - Ryo smiled. It was about time the Demon proved what it was made of. This being at range, he began to prepare his PPC and medium lasers for use.

"Sidewinder 3 to Sidewinder lance, sensor contact near dropship wreckage, looks like a couple of small vehicles disposition unknown over." Came across his radio just as his passive long range scanners picked up the signal. Typing away at his console, Ryan switched over to active scanning to get a more accurate reading. 'Ahh, I see. They're scouting it first." Switching to live coms, Ryan said "All sidewinder elements, this is sidewinder one. Hold position and switch to active scanners and get to cover I want a confirmed count on possible enemy presence, break. I'm picking up a few signatures but I want to confirm the threat before engaging, break. Prepare long ranged weaponry, over." From where he was he could see the exact locations of both the lance of 'Mechs and the two vehicles that where near the dropship wreckage. They were a simple generic scout car that could be found anywhere in the Sphere and even some places in the Periphery; a fast vehicle modeled after the Swift Wind that was basically all engine with wheels and a radio attached to it and while it had some armor it wouldn't stand up to anything bigger than a medium laser if it got hit and the other was just a salvage truck that would probably explode if a 'Mechwarrior sneezed on it too hard. The most dangerous thing they could do would be to call for help but that would alert the other team of real live 'Mechwarriors to the direction Panzer and them approached from. As it was though niether of them had advanced sensors and of they handled the approach right the lance could sneak up on them and hit both vehicles before they ever knew that the 'Mechs were there. He flipped over to active scanning as he had been told, and powered up his Cyclops Eye large laser. He looked around for cover. Hiding 50 tons of metal and heavy weaponry behind some trees wasn't exactly easy. As his weapons came online, he checked his scanners and reported his findings. "Sidewinder 1, this is Sidewinder 3. "... All sidewinder elements, this is sidewinder one. Hold position and switch to active scanners and get to cover I want a confirmed count on possible enemy presence, break. I'm picking up a few signatures but I want to confirm the threat before engaging, break. Prepare long ranged weaponry, over." Ryo's original role in the briefing was to stay close to Panzer, as per the latter's own instructions. He knew how to obey orders, so he slowed down his pace to find a suitable position. As his long range weapons were already primed, he only had to set his active scanners. Soon after he did, Fitzpatrick's voice came over comms."... Sidewinder 1, this is Sidewinder 3. I'm picking up two signatures by the dropship, over." Ryo's scanners confirmed Fitzpatrick's message. He was almost ready.

Yodfa had been watching her scanners intently as the lance continued to move, so intently in fact that when Panzer's orders came over the radio, "All sidewinder elements, this is sidewinder one. Hold position and switch to active scanners and get to cover I want a confirmed count on possible enemy presence, break. I'm picking up a few signatures but I want to confirm the threat before engaging, break. Prepare long ranged weaponry, over."She very nearly had to physically move her head to look up and out of the simulated cockpit to see where she was going. Fortunately she did it quickly enough that she was able to cut the throttle down to neutral and turn hard to the right in order to avoid plowing into Panzer's Centurion. and invariably forcing Fitzpatrick in the Chameleon to run wide as well, although the sudden loud curse could be heard in a muffled version through the wall of the simulator pod. Taking a moment to collect her thoughts before she went about executing her lance leader's orders she continued to curse herself in her mind. In moments however, she was ready, and was rewarded with the telltale dededebzzzzz of her grouped LRM 20's locking on to one of the vehicles gathered, something that looked like a dune buggy with some sort of odd collection of gear in the back instead of cargo space. "Sidewinder three locked on over." At the controls outside of the simulator Faizan was staring at the screen in disbelief. Talented and knowledgeable as she was about battlemechs he seemed to disbelief what the readouts were telling him about just what weapons were grouped together and locked on at the moment in Yodfa's simulated Archer. Without looking at either Bear or McDavis he seemingly asked a rather odd question. "Just so we're clear, Yodfa does have a pair of LRM 20's locked onto one little scout car right? I know the Lyran method of combat is overkill followed by more overkill, but this seems a bit... excessive." TAG: anonymousjerk Oviraptor @samuraikoku SaintB Movement: Turn hard right to avoid hitting Panzer, cut throttle to 0kph Combat: None Utility: Lock on 2xLRM 20's on scout car, communicate lock-on to lance.

Bear shifted his position in his seat. Panzer seemed to be waffling on making his command decisions, as a member of a team he had no issues executing orders or suggesting a course of action but it seemed like once he was in the position to take charge he began to doubt himself. It was a common thing and not to be held against someone but it also would prevent him from moving up beyond his current status as a dragoon and that would be unfortunate, "Damnit Panzer make a decision, give an order before this whole thing is busted wide open." he muttered. ... you're cleared to engage." Four words that could make or break this transition of a career for Yodfa. Four words that meant one push of a button... Yodfa decided that she could either muse on what was about to happen, or she could actually pull the trigger and start making the case for herself. So she did. "Copy that Sidewinder 1, Sidewinder 3 engaging." She had barely finished before the trigger on the simulator pod's joystick was fully depressed. From the massive torso launchers 40 LRM's hurled themselves at the azure sky, generating a cloud of rocket exhaust smoke that obscured the digital sun and emitting a deafening basso roar that shook the entire pod audibly, even to those outside of it. Instantly the temperature gauge shot up and several warnings went off, accompanied by a sudden spike in the ambient heat, but it was done, missiles away. The fact that two LRM-20's had been used to engage a relatively lowly scout car had also been noted pretty quickly by those watching on the computer monitors as well. Faizan's eyes conveyed a look of utter disbelief as his head shifted from side to side, as if to shake the very odd reality of such a thing happening in front of him was a strict impossibility for the most part. Even as he was coming to grips with what had just happened his mouth opened and closed several times as if to pluck words out of the air that were mysteriously not forthcoming. However he couldn't muster up any comments other than stating what was plainly obvious. "So she did in fact have two LRM-20s locked on a scout car, and then she fired them both. That's 10,000 C-Bills to destroy a scout car that just might be carrying salvage. I mean sure, Sanada lead with a PPC shot but that's perfectly reasonable and costs energy. But 40 LRM's? For a sub-5 ton car?" TAG: @samuraikoku Oviraptor anonymousjerk SaintB Movement: None Attack: 2x LRM-20's to scout car. Utility: Comms to lance leader informing him of attacking scout car.

Ryan openly gaped as 40 LRM's streaked through the blue sky, obscuring the sunlight and speeding toward their target. "She really just did.." his inner voice was interrupted by the loud explosion of 40 missiles impacting the earth a click away "She really just did that..she really just fucking did that" Not only did she just grossly over heat her Mec' she also gave their position away to anyone within a thousand kilometer radius. Hell, he was pretty sure they'd of seen that from orbit!.
