Welcome to The Cavern! This is a fun, vibrant community (and/or wretched hive of scum and villainy, depending on how you look at it). Many of us met on NationStates General, which we affectionately refer to as "NSG" or "that stupidly addictive place full of screaming teenage libertarians." If you know us from there, cool! If you've never heard of NSG in your life but got invited here anyway, also cool!
The goal of this forum is to be a place for intelligent debate, fun conversations, wacky games, and whatever else we come up with somewhere down the road. This is mostly a forum for adults, and entirely a forum for people who can behave like adults. If that sounds like a good fit for you, we're happy to have you.
You may have noticed that you don't see any of the aforementioned chat and debate. To access all areas of this forum, you will need to register first. Send us a message when you register letting us know a little bit about yourself, and if we agree that you're a good fit (which we probably will), we'll let you right in.
Join us, if you dare!

Since we've had an influx of new applications lately, it occurs to me that it might be a good idea to explain the application policies of this forum. At The Cavern, we value the comfort and security of all our current members more than growth for the sake of growth. Because of this, whenever a new person applies or is suggested as someone to invite, their name is floated to the forum as a whole, and everyone is given some time to veto the applicant if they feel that person would negatively impact their comfort or their enjoyment of the forum - which is why you, dear guest, will generally have to wait for a little while before we let you in. Every individual member of this forum has full veto power, so as to prevent situations where we let in somebody's stalker because they're a POPULAR stalker or something. There are essentially three reasons we might not let you in within 48 hours: (1) someone has a legitimate objection to your presence, (2) you don't meet this forum's age requirements, or (3) you didn't put any identifying information in your application and no one has any idea who you are. To prevent reason 3, please type something into the "message" field, preferably something like this: ...okay, that third one might be wishful thinking. Note the ages given in the first two examples. That's because we also ask that if you are under 18, you disclose that when applying. You don't have to give us a specific age if you're uncomfortable with that, but we are a largely 18+ forum and prefer to stay that way. We've made a few rare exceptions for particularly mature and well-liked people who are close to their 18th birthday, but letting in a minor requires more discussion than letting in an adult, and we won't be pleased if we learn we've done it unknowingly. You especially need to tell us if you're under 16; we MAY be willing to let you access some parts of this forum as a sort of "junior member," but most of the forum is strictly 16+.
