I'm thinking about starting a game set in the height of ancient Rome during the republic era. You, the players, will be part of an order called the Arcani.
The Arcani were a group of highly trained spies, scouts, and when need be, assassins. I want to make this as historically accurate as possible as well as add a few fantasy twists. This is a post-based game so not everyone has to be on at the same time to play.
This is just an idea, but I would like some feedback before I take off with it. Also, if you're interested let me know in this forum!

After some research to get dates and times right (and making s#$t up)
Premise:
It's the year 200 BC, 14 years after the first Macedonian war. The Punic wars are still at a head (Rome's epic war with Carthage), when a new and disturbing development occurs. Phillip V of Macedon allied with the feared ruler Hannibal Barka of Carthage. Anticipating the worst, Rome dispatched legions across the Adriatic to counter any reinforcements that Macedon might send. This 'pre-emptive action' Was seen as an hostile act by Phillip and his allies and war once again boiled over to the east. Meanwhile, still licking his wounds, Hannibal remains a threat to the weakened Roman Republic having just recently repelled his 15 year long invasion of Rome. In the north spies are reporting that the fierce Gallic Arverni, Helviti, and Noreii clans have united and are amassing for an attack on the weakened northern frontier of the Republic.
Rules: 1.No god-modding. I know you're a highly trained super assassin spy, but you can't kill an entire army of bad guys with one swing of your fiery sword of justice.
2. It is not gender specific. Some of the best spies and assassins in history have been women
3. it is okay to interact with other players, but before you make them say something, do something, ect, ect, in your post, get their permission first. It's fine if they open a door or take a drink from their mug, or something else that's inane, but it's not okay if you make them fight or talk.
4. No trolls. I haven't seen any trolls on this site (thank god) but nobody likes a troll! ask the billy goats.
If you're still interested or now are interested, post in his forum. I want to get at least 4 players before i kick it off, but 2 or 3 is fine too. I'll be back with the character sheet mock up later. Thanks

I have a list of a few skills that you may or may not have heard of:
Pankration: Roman and Greek hand-to-hand fighting, modern Olympic wrestling is a less deadly form of it.
Pardellion: Roman advanced formation fighting taught to the Elite Praetorian Guard using the Gladius and Rectangular Scutum
List of equipment:
Lorica Hamata: An iron chain mail shirt that extended to the knees, used predominantly by auxiliary soldiers
Lorica Segmentata: A breastplate composed of flexible iron strips reinforced with tough leather that the Roman regulars wore to battle.
Lorica Squamata: An iron scaled beastplate that fit the wearer like a glove, offering maximum mobility and proitection. Worn by officers and Generals.
Scutum: Rectangular shield used by the Roman front line troops
Gladius: Roman short-sword. Roughly three feet in length and designed to be a thrusting weapon but can slash to devastating effect as well in the right hands. Pugio: The Pugio is a smaller version of the Roman Gladius, only being around ten inches long from pommel to the tip of the blade. Used in very close quarters combat. Primarily a thrusting weapon
Pilum: Roman javelin with a soft iron tip, used to break up enemy formations and weigh down shields.
Okay fellas, here's the character sheet
Name: Age:
Description: (picture or written description. Please keep it realistic, someone with blaze orange eyes and blue spiky hair would stand out ANYWHERE)
Specializations:
Primary Skills:
Languages known:
Biography: (short or long bio on why and how they became Arcani)
Sample is as follows:
Name: Quintus Maro
Age: 23
Description: Quintus Maro is tall for a Roman standing at 5'11 with a solid, powerful build. His grey eyes hint at Gaulic heritage, but with his short black hair and olive toned skin there's no mistaking the difference to one who looks closely enough. He keeps his face clean shaven as any true civilized man would unless the mission requires him to do otherwise. When not on assignment he wears his normal day-to-day disguise of a Palace Garrison soldier with the rank of Decurion. (Lieutenant nowadays ) He keeps his weapons and equipment in top condition and always looks neat and presentable when in the palace.
Specializations: Infiltration, Assassination, Sabotage, and information gathering (including torture)
Primary Skills: Knife fighting, Pankration, Pardellion, Disguise, stealth, torture, tracking and hunting
Languages known/Read/Write: Latin, Greek, Gallic, Punic, Arcani sign language.
Biography: Quintus Maro was an orphan in the streets of Rome growing up. He had a hard childhood having not known his father and his mother dying of fever at an early age. Quintus grew up fighting to survive and it has made him a hard man. Quintus' intelligence, strength and cunning soon saw him as the head of a gang of thieves and murderers at the age of 13. Quintus learned his way around the pugio during his early childhood and sometimes reverts back to his old style of fighting with one in each hand when in close combat. Quintus and his gang terrorized lower Rome for two years, mugging people in the streets, extorting protection from shop owners and assassinating rival gang members and leaving their mutilated corpses out as a warning. When he was fifteen, The Legate of the Vigiles decided that enough was enough and sent a whole cohort of the city's Vigiles (around 480 men) to dispose of his gang of only 30. They surrounded their hideout and demanded they surrender or they would storm the building and kill them. The ensuing fight was a slaughter, while the gang was fierce and tough, the Vigiles were better trained and better armed. Quintus barely escaped with his life and joined the legion as a recruit to hide from justice. Quintus soon excelled at his training finding that the life of a soldier suited him a lot more than he thought it would. His health improved as the training continued (being a street rat, even a successful one he suffered from malnutrition) and he was soon known by the other recruits as 'The Bull' for his strength and ferocity. The Centurion in charge of training soon realized Quintus' talent for violence when three of his fellow recruits tried to kill him and he beat them to death with his bare hands. This is a serious offense punishable by death or slavery, but the man then known as Centurion Artinious Galeus wanted Quintus to serve another purpose. Centurion Galeus was also a member of the secret organization called the Arcani, An order of spies and assassins dedicated to the safety of Rome and her Republic. Galeus pulled some strings with his contacts in the order and arranged for Quintus to be publicly tried for the slaughter of three legionary trainees and sentenced to life in chains as a galley slave. Quintus was then secretly taken to the Arcani headquarters, a stone fortress nestled in the alps, and introduced him to the ways of the Arcani. Quintus learned new skills and improved old ones, spending years honing his body and mind for the service of Rome, and has become a very successful and deadly agent of the Republic living the Arcani mantra, "I am the knife in the dark, I am the shadow in your step, I am the unknown, I am the Arcani"
