I have found an interesting anomaly, maybe a ProBoards artefact and maybe my own machine (although I've done every page-reset/force-reload I can think of short of browser-reinstallation or worse). Just thought I'd put it out there for general viewing, though.
Witness:
For the last couple of days the Bookmarks element has had a count one greater than it should have.
When there are no New items through Bookmarks, it shows "1" when it would not normally show at all. When there is one New thread worth visiting the Bookmarks page it would show as "2", not "1". If there happen to be 4 New-labelled threads begging ones attention it shows "5". "Profile" and "Messages" enumerations are what they should be (within the usual expected quirkiness of the output).
Idea 1: A thread I have had Bookmarked and which has New messages has been shifted to (in NS terms) an "Evidence Locker" area that I can't see. Officially it still counts as a thread that I have Bookmarked which has yet to be noted, but when the Bookmarks page is compiled for my viewing pleasure it is skipped over as "not fit for viewing at my level". - I'm not sure how much Evidence Lockeresque stuff goes on, right now, but I've got no reason to believe this happened, it's a theory at best.
Idea 2: When the Bad Day thread had elements sifted away into the USA, Fuck Yeah! thread, an internal counter of "threads with New Messages" ended up being incremented by both, but viewing only sated the count to the tune of one. - This is a longer shot, as it takes a very particular coding scheme (and persistent values where I would have thought dynamic tallying on-demand would have been optimal enough under most circumstances) and perhaps a very narrow band of time for my subsequent thread-browsing to have occurred in... Also, I don't think it appeared concomitant with the thread-split, at all, but started perhaps a couple of days ago.
Idea 3: Something "New" on the second page of the Bookmarks thread (thus not seen by me, and count-reset). - No, I have two pages of bookmarks, it's in reverse chronology so New items appear at the top of the first and I went and checked the second page of (ancient, all inactive) bookmarks and there were no "New" markers nor do the count reset.
There are little quirks to the numbering, up there, I have found (firstly the number gets assigned on entry to a page, so it can show "the number things unseen upon entering the page", which can include the current page which is being seen; secondly, viewing Bookmarks or Messages with multiple New items (tends to) reset the count to zero/non-indicated at that point, but you have to remember to go back and look at the other (still New-marked) items even without the visual reminder), but that's just something I work around having worked out the likely reasoning, and apart from this the numbers have been accurate regarding their obvious purpose and nominal relevant count.
Just right now, though, <Displayed New Bookmarks>=<Actual New Bookmarks>+1. Although, having said this, it'll probably decide to solve itself without further reason, now I've bothered to actually mention it on open forum. Whether it gets deliberately 'fixed' or not.
Even if it doesn't vanish, not an issue, just putting it out here in case it's relevant to anybody else. It probably isn't, but I had an idle moment and thought I'd write something about it. Then delete it and start again. This second version is shorter, and I think more readable. Honestly!
