This is a thread to find out who would be interested in a forum-based RP (like the sort of thing the RP people get up to on NS), if I were to create one here, and to figure out what sort of setting we would want for it.

A Lovecraftian setting could be fun!

Serrland, I lost your vote for urban fantasy when I edited the poll, so vote for it again. (And ooh, Lovecraftian is another good option. This poll may be doomed to be edited a lot at this rate, heh. For now, people, just say in the thread if you're also into eldritch abominations. )

Incidentally, if there's enough interest, there's no reason at all we can't have multiple RPs running, although if we want them to be directed in any way beyond "okay, here's a setting, now go," I personally probably can't do that for more than one.

I voted for X-Men, but really, I'm fine with anything.

We should see about getting our P2TM regulars to weigh in, should they wish.

I am curious if anyone would be interested in a less character based style of RP and more national based one?

If we were to do a superhero rp, I'd prefer generic...

A Lovecraftian setting could be fun! Yes, please! I also picked all the options except superheroes, because the Tick is my favorite but that would just become a coffee-shop RP, and I'd be invisible anyway, and the SciFi in space because I really don't care how the ships move. EDIT: Also, maybe as a variation on a Lovecraftian setting, how about paranormal/horror investigators? That's what I was doing in NS.

So...if I could make a small request that might actually have no payout whatsoever? whereyouthinkyoupoliying might be interested in something like this, I don't know, she also might not and be super pissed that I just called her out in front of everyone so if she doesn't please make sure I'm the jerk and not her, but she's out of town until Saturday so could maybe possibly hold open entry until she gets back maybe?

Heh, understood. It'd take me longer than that to build a setting, anyway, AND I wasn't particularly intending for any RP I semi-run to be "closed" per se, so it's all good. (And WYTYG, you are under absolutely no obligation to participate in any RP, and I would never dream of taking a "my girlfriend might be interested maybe" as anything resembling a commitment. )

I'd prefer character based and Lovecraftian.

I've always liked mish-mash everything goes settings. Like where a Samurai goes through a time portal and fights Nazis with a chainsaw.
Pretty much anything sounds good, really. The only thing I'd consider is how often people post- if it becomes ones of those roleplays where people post like 20 times a day every day and I come home from work and there's a giant mess of text that's like a small novel I think I wouldn't stick around for very long.

Yeah, but with a decidedly supernatural theme with about a 30% chance that it was all down to Old Man Jenkins in a monster mask after all. X-Files meets Scooby-Doo.

Oh, no, I'll just sit and watch (I have never rped in my life and can't entirely wrap my head around the concept). Thanks, though.

So, what I'm getting from the poll at this point is that I could pretty much pick ANY setting and have a fair number of people who'd want to join in (and, in addition, that we have enough interest in RPs that we could very probably manage to have a few going at once). Awesome.

If you have enough time on your hands/ other volunteers to run others. I've never run something like that. Could it just be like a more formal mafia with a bit more inventiveness on the 'suddenly, this happened' stuff?

Could it just be like a more formal mafia with a bit more inventiveness on the 'suddenly, this happened' stuff? Sure, why not? Incidentally, as I mentioned elsewhere in passing, I would LOVE input/help/advice from the more experienced RPers on this forum - Murv's already here, but I know there are others of you ( Khan supports Poli.? Korladis misses Poli? Indigo? Other people whose RP experience I'm not remembering at this moment?) who could probably help guide me and others in figuring out how to make this work, even if you don't particularly feel like participating actively yourselves.

I'm happy to be a TBC RP answer-person/mentor/guru/random know-it-all if anyone wants. As I said to Poli privately, it takes me forever to come up with story ideas for my own RPs but as with everything else, I have ideas on good ways to run a character/story-based RP. I poked my blog-RP partners to see if they'd be interested too. All really good writers, at least one interested in nation-RP, and another very experienced in NS RP.

I'd go for a nation with the caveat that I'd probably pull for alternate history as opposed to pure fantasy on that end. I'm always down for alternate history. Daistallia was originally an AH version of Singapore - if Singapore had been settled by 15th C. Swiss mercenaries, and that might be fun to go back to.
